So out of trying to start 2011 off with more wisdom my friend and I decided to try meditation. This led us to a meditation group at the San Antonio Museum of Arts. We tried this yesterday morning which was a Saturday at 10 a.m. This required that I skip a night out with friends in order to be on my best form for the meditation. This was my first meditation class and I did not know what to expect. They provided some "meditation" cushions which we placed on the floor of the Asian wing. This is apparently the only museum in the us that allows a meditation group to occur in their galleries. The meditation was quite easy we were told to focus on our breathing and to observe our thoughts and try and not hold on to any of them. I enjoyed this experience and found it to be relaxing. This felt therapeutic in some way and somehow like I allowed my mind to decompress. I will try again to see what happens since I felt that with how busy our lives our now I need ways to counter all of the busyness. I met a wonderful lady that attended the class who shared that she does meditation at her "church" which is Quaker. The society of friends is what it's called. I will be attending that next and will share how that goes. I had no idea Quaker religion was still around and will try to find out as much as I can about it before i go.
